Hohe Tauern National Park

The Hohe Tauern National Park – the biggest nature reserve in Central Europe – offers scenery that is simply overwhelming, a habitat for rare plants and animals, and a cultural landscape that continues to preserve its original character.  This is a region just waiting to be explored – what a journey of discovery awaits you!

Long Live the Kings of the Eastern Alps!

Welcome to the world of the Weather Makers, of wild women and the legendary Venediger Mandeln.  In earlier times, mankind used these mystical figures to explain away inexplicable phenomena and the primal forces of nature.

Nowadays, however, here in the Hohe Tauern National Park Vacation Region, we are proud to share with you these Kings of the Eastern Alps, ranging in elevation from 800 to 3,800 m above sea level and promising holiday fun that will leave you, quite literally, sky-high.  The majestic, ice-covered 3,000-meter peaks of the Hohe Tauern await climbers and intrepid hikers with magical routes and incredible views.  And between crystal-clear tarns, alpine meadows in bloom and rushing waterfalls, nature vacationers, families and outdoor fans have their own private audience with the unfettered lords of this mountain world – bearded vultures, marmots, chamois and ibex.

Whether you’re on foot, perched on the saddle of your bike, with a fishing rod or golf club in hand, buckled into a paraglider or donning a swimsuit.  This is summertime fun that is truly fit for a king and knows absolutely no limits.  And yet equally deeply rooted in this region are tradition, celebration of heritage and heartfelt hospitality, together with a closeness to nature and a respect for the uniqueness of this jewel of nature.

Dream Winters are made of this!

Lying on the outskirts of the national park are 8 fantastic ski areas, giving us access to more than 800 kilometers of skiing delights.  Fans of alternative sports will also find their own personal retreat here: for cross-country, sledding, snowshoe hikes, igloo-building, sleigh rides, ice climbing and so much more.

...nothing stands in the way of a memorable winter vacation!
